May 18, 2006 – Ready to Rock
We're
painted, we're primed and we're ready to go, go go...
Thanks to
the unending time and support from Dean, Kathy, Lary
and Van (not to mention Megan holding down the fort) we will be on the water
for the first time this Saturday!
It's been a
lifelong dream - now it becomes a reality.

May 3, 2006 – The
Beat Goes On
We trailer fired
last Saturday and have totally rewired the boat since (it had to be done -
really who has DC power lines in black). One more trailer fire and we are prime for Spring Training! Many thanks to the crew - I
couldn't have reached the water without their expertise and sacrifice of
time. This is a team sport and my team has done yeomans
effort. Celebratory barbeque at the Fletcher’s this Sunday (with pictures).

Missed pre-season test at Coulon Park
We ran out of time and couldn't
make it even with yeoman effort by the crew - sorry but we needed another
day. When we got all the systems connected and turned the motor over to test
for oil leaks, fuel leaks, etc. Van noticed that the 2nd, 5th and 6th intake
rockers were hitting the valve covers (this was obviously an issue in the past
because there are relief cuts inside the valve covers). As Ed Trihey had just rebuilt the heads and put in new intake
valves this is, in retrospect, something we might have anticipated. We need to
mill the back side of the rocker arms and readjust all of the valves. We simply
couldn't get that done in time and make it to the session with any semblance of
confidence (let alone sleep) - and the first time I hit the water I really need
to be alert with all my wits about me in a boat we are utterly confident with.
We will absolutely be at
Spring Training - and we won't be there to work out the kinks. We will spend
the next week evaluating the work necessary to be "race ready" and
when show up at Spring Training we intend to rock from the outset.
