Silverdale Quicksilver review -
Friday night:
The
boat is in the pits (late) after being on display at the Countrywide Home
Loans,
Saturday night:
Not
our best day of the season. Fuel flow problems plagued us in both Heats 1 and
2. First a brand new regulator set at 6 lbs failed and flooded the
secondary’s – when we got back on trailer and tested the fuel
system after a DNS in Heat 1 the regulator was pushing over 12 lbs to the
carburetor. Replace the fuel pressure regulator with our old unit and prepared
for Heat 2. Went out in Heat 2 and was running sporadically for 3 laps then the
engine quit and wouldn’t refire, DNF. Back on
the trailer we find that a fuel line had come apart and starved us of fuel
– one more fix to make before Sunday.
Sunday night:
Go
out for Heat 3 and coming up to speed there is a loud “pop” and the
engine dies, another DNS. Back on trailer with 5 minutes to the BMain we find that we have smashed the electrodes on the
plugs in 3 and 5. This has never happened before – no idea what could
have caused this. We try to replace all 8 spark plugs quickly to get out for
the BMain in an attempt to advance – but the
crew is working around very hot headers and don’t get all the plugs
seated at 10 lbs – boat starts but won’t run under load another
DNS.
This
was a very frustrating weekend for the entire team. My thanks to Dean, Jim,
Christopher, Kathy and Donna - they put in all the effort I could have asked
for but we simply couldn’t GetRDone. The heads are off the engine right
now and we’ll figure out what needs to be done. We have two weeks before
hooking up the trailer to head out for
