Tri-Cities review –

Not the weekend we had hoped for.  We missed the opportunity to score many points.

Friday testing went well, a freshened motor and new prop gave us a lot of speed and lift (perhaps too much lift…).  We got in two good qualification runs, posted a speed and earned some points. The third run Friday was cut short when our MSD ignition failed.

J. Craig Fletcher, driver of the UL-13 Celtic Racing race boat, grabs more air than water during a testing run Friday on the Columbia River. A record field of 16 unlimited light racing boats qualified for this weekend's Atomic Cup.

Saturday things went downhill rapidly. We went out on the course at 08:30am to improve our time and speed, unfortunately coming down the front stretch on our first speed lap we lifted high (not the tame 3’-4’ show above but 8’-10’). Somehow I managed to get the boat back down safely but that was expensive air time. We incurred damage and were not able to build RPM for the Heat racing Saturday. We eventually withdrew and towed out of the pits Saturday evening to head back to the shop early Sunday.

Gear box is being repaired right now and hope to have it back Wednesday in time to put the engine back in the boat and pull into the Stan Sayers pits on Thursday.
